THE NO VOICE BAND

The No Voice Band was officially formed in 2021, but its roots trace back to 2001 when Benji Muziq was invited to perform at a New Artist Event at the Red Cat Jazz Café on Congress Street in Houston, Texas. At that time, Benji—then known simply as "Benji"—was a newcomer to the city’s live music scene. Having moved to Houston in 1999, he was primarily known as a gospel singer and had not yet established himself as an active performer in the local entertainment circuit.

Eager to build something lasting, Benji sought to connect with musicians who shared his vision of creating a musical dynasty. The original band lineup featured Marcus Walker on keys, Marquis Sanders on bass, and Chaun Williams on drums. Over the years, the lineup evolved, with many talented musicians joining Benji on stage. While Benji didn’t have an official band name at the time, he became known for consistently performing with a circle of loyal musicians from various prominent Houston bands, including The Wise Men, The Allstar Band, The Goodfellas Band, The Jukebox Band, We Are The Show Band, MMP Allstars, TrapSoul Band, and others.

It wasn’t until 2021, during Benji’s residency at Euphoria Lounge, that the band officially adopted the name “The No Voice Band.” The name came from an inside joke among the band members, who noticed that Benji often joked about “not having a voice” before performances. What started as a running gag eventually became a defining part of their identity.

Today, things have come full circle. The No Voice Band has returned to its foundational roots, reuniting original members Marcus Walker and Marquis Sanders, and introducing the newest addition, Justice “Snupe” Robinson on drums. Together, they continue to solidify their place in Houston’s live music scene, bringing Benji Muziq’s vision to life with every performance.
